hi, i was wondering if someone could help me with some information on moving to spain. i’m an american citizen working as a freelance translator in japan (japanese-english), and my wife is a japanese citizen. we are trying to move to spain later this year, and were wondering what type of visa we should apply for given our situation. i’ve asked a few lawyers, and they seem to imply that the only way to get a visa would either be to start a company and invest about 80,000 euros in it, or to get a non-working visa by proving that we have about 50,000 euros apiece to show that we are financially self-sufficient. while we don’t have that kind of money on hand, we would be financially independent with my translation work from my current clients, so that shouldn’t be a problem. does anyone know if there is a way for us to get visas to reside in spain legally, and if so what the process is like to obtain them? any advice would be much appreciated.

thank you!
