BEST BANK ACCOUNT
Hi’ I need to open a Spanish bank acc to pay bills for(Community fees, basura,,etc.) a recently aquired appartment.
I will still be living in England & send relatively small amounts to spanish account periodically
I have my NIE number and wondered if anyone can recommend a bank in Benalmadena
with low charges, also internet banking is a factor.
  thanks’

We use Cajamar.. they are one of the banks that do not charge you for having an account!
...As long as you have at least one monthly ‘movement’ (no prob if you are paying bills on a direct debit)..
If you do not have that minimum movement - they will charge you a small handling charge ....
I used to have an account with Unicaja, partner Sol Bank (friend had Barclays)... but they all charge you
Eu 45 pa for the privellage!  (I couldn’t see any better service for the extra money!).
Good luck -
PS - If you are opening a non-resident account - I belive you now have to prove you are so - with a certificate? from the town hall/police to prove you are not paying Spanish tax etc?
Ask at the bank?

pps - any branch is only as good as its staff… I opened mine at one branch, but use another as they have better customer service!

Thanks for reply Susan,

I will possibly open a Halifax (Spanish)account as they have links with the Halifax in
England with a very helpful phone centre in England.Admittedly they charge 25Euros
PA,but all transfers between English current acc & Spanish acc are free.

Any other views are very welcome,

We use Solbank (although our Branch is in Estepona) - you can see your accounts on-line - and in or branch we have our own adviser who i email whenever i need anything - Bank Manager is also very good - and all are very responsive.

I HIFX monies across when i need to with nee fee in the bank - we have both Euro and GBP accounts so make use of whichever interest rate is the best at the time
