Hola! We are a professional family (Myself, the good wife and our 8 year old daughter Lucie) and are Moving from the hell hole of Plymouth UK to Aspe near Elche, would love to hear from anyone in that area as we wont know anyone! we’re both hovering each side of 40 (!) so still VERY young people (ha ha ha!)  😝

We have done lots of research (and have been learning the lingo) so we THINK we know what we are getting into (!), and are just renting to start with, a large finca with land and pool, on the outskirts of Aspe, i think the area is called “partida alcana” or so the estate agent said?? Apparently its quiet, i bliimin hope so too!

. . I work on the internet so i dont have to worry about work (check my profile for exactly what as i dont think i am allowed to post a link, not sure?)  but we can get by ok, and the wife will probably end up teaching English as she has done before, and yes we are well aware of “la crisis” at the moment.

We are looking to get to know a few people as we are arriving “blind” so to speak, plus it would be great if anyone has any kids similar age to lucie to play with as she wont know anyone either. We are specifically also looking for a bit of info from people who have already made to move to the Aspe or Elche Area. ..such as….............

What are the schools like specifically in ASPE ?(state schools not international ones)

What shops, bars or facilities are there around that area?

Any car boot sales or charity shops to keep Amanda (mi mujer) happy?

Are there any horse riding schools or horse stables in or around Aspe or Elche for my horse-mad little one who has been riding for 4 years now!?

Are there many english clubs and or societies one could look at joining? (no religious cults please)  🐍

Hopefully the area is away from the “union jack shorts wearing, beer swigging, beetroot red (dont speak a word mate)” type of people? (Yes a stereotype but you know the type of person i mean)

and what is there to do around that area, any suggestions?

Hope you all dont mind me asking 😊

......and thanks in advance.

Hi thebigboss,

We moved to Aspe in May of this year and we have been doing a renovation on a villa on the outskirts of Aspe.  We know very few english speakers in Aspe (Except for our one neighbour), so this says it all about the Union Jack shorts beer-bellied yobs that you mention in your post above.

Aspe is the most ‘spanishy’ town we have found in the area and we love it.

We don’t have kids so I can’t help with the school questions in terms of quality etc, but there are at least 2 schools in Aspe that we drive past.  Check out http://www.aspe.es which is an excellent resource including maps etc for the town.

Hope this helps and we’d love to meet up with you and yours for a drink when you get here…

Best wishes,

Paul.

You may already know but most properties have at least 2 addresses here.  Both are us and I have no idea why we have 2.  If you can get your ‘other’ address, you can look it up on the map on the Aspe.es site…

I’ll step outside now and start waving just to help you see us 😊

When do you get here and do you fancy meeting up for a drink - we’ll see if we can find this english bar eh?

You may already know but most properties have at least 2 addresses here.  Our ********************************************* Aspe, 03680, but the address on the actual house is Camino ****************************************************** Aspe, 03680.  Both are us and I have no idea why we have 2.  If you can get your ‘other’ address, you can look it up on the map on the Aspe.es site…

So if you use the drop down for *********************************rom the list, you’ll see our place as if on google earth.

Hi Paul,
I just found your post and was wondering how you are getting on living in the Aspe countryside
we have rented a Finca from 1st of June long term between Aspe and La Romana The calle is called Gaspar and i think i have found it on your link.

I wouldnt mind some tips if you are still around that area, on internet providers etc.  and maybe some ideas on what to do with the 2.5 acres of overgrown land which comes with the house.

Many Thanks

Ian

Hiya Ian!

Yes, we’re still in Aspe and LOVE it here!!!  ISP, We use Commenersol, a wireless provider rather than the ADSL services from the big guys.  We’ve tried telefonica and Orange so far and they both can only achieve 1mb connection maximum and even then it’s really unrelaibel.  We get 3mb from Commenersol and we’ve been really pleased with them.

As for the 2 1/2 acres, sounds like you have a plot similar to ours.  Maybe we can get together sometime next week for a coffee and a chat in Aspe?

Have a great week!!!

Paul
