It is sad to hear the news of the death of Russia?s iconic singer Ludmila Zykina at 80. She was another of a genre of entertainers, the likes of whom we will never experience again. Her singing was adored by tens of millions of Russians who found their national soul expressed by her singing.
Portugal had Amalia Rodriguez, France, Edith Piaf, Charles Aznavour was Albanian rather than French. Greece had to go one better by having two: Maria Callas and Nana Mouskouri. Germany had Lal Anderson (Lili Marlene etc): Britain? Goodness knows.
For Spain I would suggest Julio Iglesias but he is a fantastic crooner rather than the spiritual singing voice of Spain. Has Spain got any legendary singers like Piaf, Rodriguez, or Mouskouri?
