Hola a todo el mundo!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Os cuento: I met this great guy (my now boyfriend) when I studied abroad in Madrid when I was in college. I have since graduated and we’ve been doing the back and forth using up vacation time.

Is there a way to live with my boyfriend without us getting married to allow me to be legally over in Spain? I’ve looked into courses I could take so that I can apply for a student visa…. but it’s a crazy amount of money I’d need to shell out just to be with the one I love…

Anyone who has comments/suggestions/has lived similar experiences, please let me know!!!

Muchas gracias!!!

hi mad4madrid,

as i read you say that it’s a tourist visa you got, so you can’t apply for studying courses though caz you need a student visa there, so forget about this option. If I were in your shoes, I’d either get married in madrid, OR get back to the US and get a student visa…

hola,

Ya you’re tight there about courses. well, as for the marriage i think it’s better, why? caz as you say you had a student visa for spain I mean you studied there, right? so why don’t u go ahead and get married and stay on the residency for the spanish citizenship, that way you guarantee to stay in Spain legally. As a rule in Spain you can apply for the citizenship after you’ve been resident from 2 to 10 years, present the evidence that you’ve been living in Spain as a student for the past years and I don’t know go ahead and apply for a citizenship, as you studied and lived in Spain for a while i don’t think that you gonna need much paperwork or even the process would be complicated.  BUT i’m afraid that you have to renounce your US passport and give it in!! caz i don know whether you wanna stay in Spain or leave. OR take your amigo and go marry in the US . maybe someone needs to obey the other.

and have a good luck…
