One thing I have to say is YEAH OK WHERE? CATALONIA (They Would not near the seats!) IS NO GALICIA IS NO over 43% in Spain! WHERE!

Today in the news…

More than 43% of foreign councillors in Spanish Town Halls are British

The British lead the field in the number of foreign councillors who hold seats on local councils in Spain, according to data recently published by the Ministry for Regional Policy.

The Ministry takes its information from the results of the 2007 local elections, when more than 68,000 councillors were elected to more than 8,000 Spanish Town Halls. Of those, 85 councillors were born in other European Union countries and, of those 85, more than 43% are British ? the 37 Britons who hold seats on Spanish councils.

The second largest sector is the seventeen councillors from Germany.

As would be expected, the regions with the highest foreign population also have the highest number of foreign councillors on their local councils. Valencia is top with 30, where 19 local British residents were elected to councils in the region just over two years ago. Five German nationals also hold seats at local Town Halls.

Second in line is Andaluc?a, another region with a large foreign population. They have 18 foreign councillors. Of the two largest groups, eight are British, and five are German. Catalu?a has eight foreign councillors, and splits the number up between two each for Britain, Italy and France, and one each from Germany and Belgium. It?s also one of only two Spanish regions to currently have a foreign Mayor ? Ann Gyles, born in Amberes in Belgium, is the local Mayor in Alf?s, a small village some 10 kms from Lleida.

Claude George Edgar Doppia, originally from France, is Mayor of another small village, Roll?n, in Salamanca.
