Do you know if you are paying too much for your home insurance? Often people insure with the bank that holds there mortgage and often think that they cannot change through fear of penalty or retribution. This is usually not the case. On rare occasions it can be that in the small print you could suffer a penalty if you change your insurance provider, but this is very rare. Often the manager will tell you that you must insure through them but this is usually not true. Many banks state that the amount of bricks and mortar cover must be insured for the sale valuation of the property and that is definately untrue. You can insure a property for as much as you like but the insurers will only pay out based on the current rebuild value of the property. Often the banks insurance cover is very limited particuarly if you have solar panels and generators.
