I would be very grateful if anyone has any answers to my questions.
I am a teacher working for a language academy in Barcelona. I have worked since September 2008, but my contracts are only short term ie. September-June and I don’t work during the summer. I am working at the moment but I wanted to claim paro in August of 2010, as getting teaching work then is near impossible.I thought I would have no problems, as I will have worked for 2 years, but then my boss told me that this year I would be getting ‘a proper contract’. I didn’t understand, as I was under the assumption I already had a proper contract, ie. with social security paid etc, but it turns out that although I’ve been paying taxes, my employer hasn’t been making ss contributions for me. They will start this year, from October until June, which is only 8 months. I heard you need to be working for 365 days to claim the paro. Luckily, I’ve held another minor position with another language school since last September, of only 1.5 hours per week, but they have been making ss contributions for me. Despite only working for 1.5 hours a week for this school, can I count the 1 year I worked for them as 365 days? Or do I have to literally count each day I worked for them? (In which case I doubt I’ll have enough days to claim the paro as I only worked for them 1 day a week) And do weekends count? Sorry, just a little confused about the notion of what counts as 365 days, any info would be useful,
I think if your employer has been paying then its enough, but you do need to have been working for sometime, how long I don’t know. You need to get hold of your “Historia de Vida Laboral” I think you can get this from the SS, then go along to the Employment office and have a chat, just choose one that isn’t chaotic.
From my understanding you get paid a percentage of the last salary, and how long they pay you depends on how long you have been working.
You will get roughly 75% of your salary for the first 6 months and then it drops down. As the above poster mentions, it would be advisable to check your ?Historia de Vida Laboral? at your local social security office and then go to the local Inem office to find out exactly how long you can be on the paro for.
Also, if you have a telefonica bill in your name, check out their website as people on the paro are given a discount from their bill. I believe electricity companies also offer a discount on their bills if they are desempleo.
No problem smiler, here is the link for the form if you want to apply : http://www.telefonica.es/on/io/es/teayudamos/home.html
Telefonica will contact you by text to confirm if you are successful if you give them your mobile number, it took me two attempts to get this as the first time they lost the form, haha.
Are you looking at the correct form? I have just downloaded both forms (movil & fijo) and neither ask for an account number.
Both forms only ask for the following information : Nombre, Apellido, DNI, Telefono, Email
Unfortunately there is no other way than snail mail, i guess they are trying to discourage people from applying. You would think the biggest telecommunications company in the counrty would have the ability to handle docuemnts electronically but alas no.
yep, yep, got it, sorted, Misses approved and said “Esto es bueno” and waiting in a envelope to go to the post office!

Hi Happy.Smiler, I don?t know or understand much about the paro situation but I?m pretty sure that if they tell you you haven?t worked enough days to claim it you should definitely be entitled to another benefit called “subsidio”. For this you need to have worked at least 6 months. It?s a lot less than paro, I think you get about 420 euros per month, but that?s better than nothing.
Just got a text from Telefonica and Movistar saying there was a problem, so i have now called 1004, and they say that my second name is my first surname and my surname is my second surname, that really pisses me off, oh hum off to the post office we go!
