apply for a student visa in spain or in home country?

hi i am an american and i am going to be studying in spain. does anyone know if i have to go back to the u.s. to apply for my student visa or if i can do it while i am in spain?? i cant seem to find any answers online. thanks.

Actually it’s on our visas page, but yes, all visas must be picked up from your home country. As far as I know there is no way of getting around it and, yes, it sucks.
