i am suppose to start a tefl program and teach on a student visa for a year. after that i was going to apply to get my masters in madrid, but i dont know if ill be able to renew my student visa for another year? does anyone know how this works? if i didnt finish my masters in a year..obviously i would have to renew it..but i am pretty sure you can only renew it up to a year…so i would have to go back home and apply for a student visa all over again just to finish school??? i hate all these visa complications. i wish i wasnt a u.s. citizen i feel my life would be so much easier.

Yes, you’ll probably have to return to the US to renew your visa, but the application can be submitted from Spain (does that help?).

As for being a US citizen - indeed it’s a burden in the EU these days. On the bright side you have an excellent network of embassies/consulates. 😊
