Hello all,

Im new here and this my first post.
Im british and my partner is spanish. We are about to have a daughter here in Madrid and I was wondering if she would have the right to a British passport or if I need to register her at the consulate or something similar.

Im not even sure if being born in Spain only gives her Spanish nationality even though Im British.

Any help appreciated.

many thanks

nathan

guirigales,
both british and spanish nationalities are passed on by parents to their children at birth.
if the baby is born in spain, you go to the local civil registry and fill in the form (birth certificate) and you will be told how you will get a copy of the birth certificate.  you will need the your partner’s spanish dni and your british passport, baisically,
the british consulate will inform you what they need so you can register your daughter as british citizen at the briish consulate, part of the paperwork is a form informing them how you got your british citizenship, and other documents, most probably your british birth certificate and passport.
