My wife and I and our 4th grade girl will be on Sabbatical from Aug 2010-Aug 2011 and are considering going to to Madrid (Is there a better choice in Spain?) but one of our concerns is that our daughter must go to a great school and that we must live in a great neighborhood. We want a place with a lot of beauty, history, and culture. I like archeological sites….We are a well-educated family (my wife and I teach at Berkeley) and want our daughter to learn Spanish. Is this available at not too great a cost? I’ve heard Salamanca and Retiro are good. neighborhoods….We are prepared to go somewhere else—Salamanca? Santiago? Toledo?

Perhaps a different city would be best? Please help these beginners. Please be as specific as you can, with school name and neighborhood.

many thanks
