Hi all,

My wife and I are thinking of moveing over to Costa Blanca Sep 2010, as we have been there many of times and love the lifestyle, people and much more. However we are very worried as all you here about and read in the Costa Blanca news is of Expats getting ripped off and loseing all there worldly positions. Im sorry to be so negetive as we really want to move over lock stock and barrel b ut im so frightened of loseing everything we have worked so hard for. Can anyone give me some good news about living in spain, and put our minds to rest in which the spanish goverment isent as corrupt as what people say and that it is a wonderfull place to live, and if possible let us know about the cost of liveing i.e utilty bills etc… etc…. Please help as we are so confused at the moment with people loseing there houses, buying on land that they dont own,

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

kind regards
danny

I wouldn’t be put off coming to Spain by negative press.  It’s still a fantastic place to live and the way things are going in the UK it’s looking more attractive all the time.  The main source of negativity that has hit us these last couple of years is the falling property market.  It has caused enormous problems and hardship for people who bought at the top or who have lost their job.  But Spain is hardly unique in this and for newcomers the crash has obvious advantages - cheap rents and lower prices if you buy (and bargain hard).  The other factor of corruption affecting property title and landing people with property nightmares is serious but largely avoidable if you take precautions.  Finally if you rely on money from the UK the falling pound has been tough and I don’t see it bouncing back any time soon.  But think of all the positives!  I’ll leave those for other posters suffice it to say that I wouldn’t live anywhere else.

What bad press?

The poster refers to the Costa Blanca News which I’m not familiar with but there has been plenty of bad press (and bad TV) about buying in Spain.  Typical would be this piece entitled “Our Spanish property dream is in ruins”

Hello,

I was wondering what bad press Spain is receiving?

Hi there,

Back here in wet soggy England, there is numerous programes on T.V about lots of Expats buying there dream homes then losing all there life’s savings only to find they don?t own the land there house is built on.

They had there own independent sloicters and by all accounts they done there home work.

Also people buying homes near the cost line then to be told 6yrs down the line that the government has introduced exclusions zones within 100m of the cost line, so if your house is built within this 100m then they just tear it down.

Sorry to be as negative as my wife and I really want to move over but to say the least we are a little weary.

AH, OK. Yes unfortunately that does happen, but also to the spanish themselves. Its not a targeted market (the brits)
Theres a case on the news (in spain) at the moment about 21 families that are about to lose their coastal homes after doing everything legally.
