how hard is it to acquire work with ONLY a TEFL certificate?

by the time i move to spain in the spring, i won't have acquired any degree from the college i'm currently attending. i won't have time to complete it. but i will have a TEFL certificate. how hard do you think it would be to gain employment with just the certificate? i speak perfect English, fluent Spanish. Is getting the certificate here in California a waste of money?
