Hi, just a quick question or two, where do most of the expats live in Spain and if possible could someone please clear up the law regarding renting a property as I’ve read on various sites that one needs to apply for an NIE card, however the same site also states that the law was changed in August and that current EU members need not apply anymore. I’m not sure when that website was updated but from what I’ve read it’s conflicting information.

Any details you can give me would be much appreciated.

If you are considering renting here in Spain obtaining an NIE is a good idea - regarding the rental it probably depends on how and who with you rent and what type of contract is drawn up. But I would not be surprised if they have now made it law. This will make bank accounts, utilities contracts etc much easier also.
