Hopefully someone on here has gone through the same process, I can use some tips/advice…thanks for your help!

I was born in the US in 1984 to a Spanish mother, she was naturalized a US citizen in 1989.  I maintained my dual US/ Spanish citizenship until age 21 (I think), but was completely unaware that I could apply to retain it.  Once I learned all this, and realized that I could apply to recover my nationality, I applied and submitted all my documents in Dec 2009.  Now I’m interested in moving to the UK to go to school this fall, and I’m concerned about the amount of time it takes for the process to be complete so I can study as an EU citizen in the UK.  My questions are this:

Has anyone made the same application to any US consulate, especially the one in Los Angeles?  What was your experience like? How long did it take?

Once your application for Nationality recovery is approved, what happens next?

How long will it take for me to obtain documents that will allow me to study in the UK (or any other EU country) as an EU citizen, such as birth certificate, passport, residency documents, etc.?

Is there anything that can be done to expedite the process?

Any other pertinent information would be GREATLY appreciated.

if you had dual spanish citizen until 21, then you were originally a spaniard.
you can go to the spanish consulate where your birth was registered and apply for the citizenship again. (if you ever did give it up)
when you get your citizenship back, they can issue you a spanish passport.
you will have to get informed how to get a dni and social security number and health card.
you will have to come to spain to have them issued to you.
you can get the dni at the police station issuing it in a matter of hours or days,
the social security number will be issued instantly at the tesoreria de seguridad social
and the health care in a matter of weeks after applying for it in area of your residence.
you can apply for your spanish birth certificate on line (if you now the volume and page number) and you can get it in matter days.
when you have them you can enter any eu country with either the spanish passport or dni.

now any eu school will accept you as an eu citizen but since your school records are american, you will have to consult the particular school what they require you to do so they can accredit your previous studies.
