Hi, I have recently relocated to Southern Spain and am looking for work in Gibraltar. Preferably within Insurance, Pensions or anything admin based.

I have registered with a lot of the agencies and have been checking the local papers etc for vacancies. I know that there are not a great deal of jobs out there and I am not expecting to find a job immediately, however I came here to give it a go and yes it is a big risk but I have decided to gamble and take the chance. I would therefore appreciate any feedback or info from anybody who knows more about the current employment situation in Gib.

Just wanted to ask a few questions and advice on the issue:

1. How long does it normally take to find work here?
2. Does it take a long time for companies to get back and offer you an interview?
3. Are there any tips to improve chances of finding a job here?
4. Are there any ways to apply for jobs NOT via an agency.. There are more agencies than jobs, I would rather apply direct but it seems to be difficult to find details on positions with companies (apart from writing speculative applications)
5. Is it worthwhile doing a telesales job or something based in Spain in the short term whilst looking for work in Gib?

I would appreciate any feedback or advice.

Many thanks in advance.

Michele

Hi Michele

I have never looked for a job in Gibraltar so I admit that I dont know too much about finding work there, or how long it takes. But the option of finding a job in Spain, in the Estepona region at least doubles your chances of getting one somewhere! I know there are a lot of gambling / gaming companies in Gib so maybe one of those might have some admin work. Try picking up the local publications and seeinfg what jobs they have advertised. Good luck on your job hunt.

Hi Keidi,

Thanks for your reply.
I am pretty close to Estepona, however I can’t imagine there being many jobs for English speaking people there?
(I am not fluent in Spanish), if you know of any English speaking jobs in Estepona please let me know.

Many thanks 😊
