Hello everyone!

My name is Maria, I am a Spanish Citizen but I reside in the US.
I was wondering if you could answer my question.
I am engaged to a very handsome US citizen:) , we want to get married at my town's catholic church. I know the paperwork involved to get civilly married in Spain is a pain, so I was wondering if it is possible to get civilly married in the US and then do the religious ceremony in Spain?

My understanding is that you need to have the civil paperwork done in order to do the religious, is this not the case? Can I do the following:

1) Do the civil marriage in the US and bring all the paperwork to Spain properly translated
2) Get married in church
3) and then register the marriage within a week of the religious ceremony at the registrar office (registro civil)

Thank you for your time!!

I am not sure what you mean, you just copied my post LOL.

I asked the embassy and this is what they said:

Podr? celebrar el matrimonio can?nico pero tendr? que avisar a la iglesia que ya est? casada. De esa manera en la iglesia no le tramitar?n su matrimonio con el Registro Civi

Which translates to "You could celebrate the canonical marriage but you will have to let the church know that you are already married, that way the church doesn't initiate the paperwork with the registrar.

I need to talk to the church about this!!
