I am hoping to apply for a student visa to Spain in the next few months, but have concerns about the national criminal background check that is required. I was pulled over for drinking and driving in South Carolina in 2006. I ended up with a DUAC but not a DUI on my record. DUAC may or may not show up on a criminal background check but definitely on a driving record. DUAC was what the lawyers/court offered me since it was my first offense. I don’t know if you can answer as far as what the consulate will accept,  but I don’t know much about this and appreciate any insight. Thanks!

I hope your student visa was accepted and you were able to have an enjoyable study in Spain. I have a similar problem - with a drink driving criminal record from Australia and looking to obtain a 1 year student Visa to Spain. May I ask if you had any trouble in obtaining the Visa?
