Hello there!

I am planning on moving to Barcelona in October. I am moving with my boyfriend who has a job there. Im thinking about teaching english there, but its not mandatory for me to have a job. Is it completely necessary to get a visa? Planning on staying for a couple years and will be engaged very soon. Will it make a difference when we’re married?  😊

your allowed 90 days in spain with out a visa , American Citizens do not need a visa when they travel to Spain for business or for personal travel. The stay in the Schengen area should not exceed 90 days in a 6 month period. Please note that the American visitor will need to present a valid American passport (valid three months beyond intended stay), proof of sufficient funds and a return airline ticket .

Visa advised to contact the embassy to check visa requirements in usa

Yes. With him there on a work visa, you should definitely be able to get a visa to be with him as long as you are married. Otherwise, I’m not sure how you’re going to swing being in Spain legally without doing the three months in Spain - three months back out of the Schengen zone - repeat bit.

If they won’t easily give you a visa this year (get on that process ASAP, it takes awhile), one solution could possibly be applying to school in Barcelona to get you in on a student visa.
