My boyfriend and I are annual travelers to Europe (we usually go to his native country, Poland, and another country each trip). This year in October we are going to Spain for the entire month. We are going to Portugal, southern France, Andorra, Gibraltar, and Morocco too. We have a big problem, though, at the moment. We usually either buy, rent, or borrow a car in Europe if we’re going to travel around the country and of course we use public transport in the cities too! Okay…the big problem is that we’re not sure how to buy a car in Spain, and my long-time internet pal in Barcelona (whom I have known almost personally for seven years) does not know much about buying cars either and he is not being much of a help.
To make a long story short, does anyone know about used car markets in Barcelona, which will be our starting point in Spain? If so, where is the best one? We would like to buy an old clunker for 500-800 Euros. We borrowed an old clunker from friends in Poland when we went on a cross-country trip in 2008 and the old clunker lasted us a month. We ended up selling it for parts.
Anyway… we’d really like to buy a dirt cheap car, with some specifications:
Mechanisms in decent working condition (engine, brakes, steering wheel, etc.) ; exterior can be bumped
Between 500-800 Euro
The ability to test-drive it BEFORE we buy it (this is a major issue for us)
Preferably bought at an used car market in Barcelona by us
If anyone has any answers, we both would be thrilled.
