Greetings!!!I am from the Philippines and my father is Spanish. He died when I was very young. Now that I decided to get a Spanish passport, the Spanish Embassy here told me that my dad is not registered in the libro de familia.I remember very vividly that before my dad died he showed us his Spanish passport .My siblings and I couldnt find any document to prove that our dad has a Spanish passport because we have been transferring places and most of our documents were lost. The Embassy told me that I could get my citizenship if I stay in Spain for a year because my grandpa is a Spanish citizen. But the thing is,why go to Spain when I know that I can get my citizenship here knowing my dad is Spanish.I have the right.Or am i wrong? Is there any other way to prove that my dad is a Spanish citizen and is listed in the Libro de Familia?
Thank you.

Aritz,

My grandfather is already dead .We already wrote a letter to the Spanish Embassy here in the Philippines and the reply was- only my grandfather is registered. They couldn’t find the name of my dad and we also couldn’t remember when he took his oath taking as a Spanish citizen. Both my grandfather and father has a Filipino nationality in the birth certificate.

We do not have an idea when my grandpa arrived in the Philippines.
No, I don’t speak spanish.Still studying the language(quite hard)

Thanks.(”,)

anikha,
when your father was born, your grandfather had already become a filipino citizen.
it appears that your grandfather did not bother to register your father’s birth at the spanish consulate, that is why they couldn’t find his name.
your grandfather did not pass on the citizenship to your father.

your grandfather should have arrived in the philippines before your father was born.
when was your father born?
did your father ever lived in or travel to spain?
in the passport he showed you, was his name different?

if you can only prove your grandfathers citizenship,
you will have to apply for a working resident visa or a non working resident visa and live in spain as a filipino immigrant untill you get the citizenship.
you can start applying when you have completed a year of residency and must renew it untill you are granted the citizenship and passport and dni.

Aritz,

My grandfather is a Spanish citizen. The embassy already suggested for me to apply for a resident visa or a non working resident in Spain as a grand daughter of a Spanish citizen. What I’m after is to find the name of my father in the Libro de Familia for me to get an automatic Spanish citizenship without living in Spain.
Thanks for helping.
