Anyone know what public liability covers on contents insurance?
The SPanish companies or the English ones working in SPain (Abbey, etc.) only seem to cover around 300k to 600k on public liability. This doesn’t seem enough - say a fire started accidentally or you flooded, the landlord’s insurer will normally sue the tenant for the money.

This is a generalisation but public liability covers damage or injury to 3rd parties - for example, if somone was injured in/or near your property, or if you flooded a downstairs neighbour. PL should cover legal costs incurred in defending a claim and any subsequent compensation. Ideally ?2-5m indemnity is recommended.

Always check the insurers policy terms to see what is covered.

All the SPanish insurers (or UK ones in SPain) seem to cover 1.5m max. The normal is more like 300-600k.
If there was a flood through the tenant leaving the bath on, would that be the tenants’ PL or the landlord’s PL?
