hi my first entry on this site.
i have been a self employed teacher in Japan for 10years and started with no tefl or any other paper still dont have!
i will move to costa de la luz area in the near future and while im getting my feet maybe i will want to do a bit of teaching until i can find other work that i do ,landscaping /home improvments.
here in japan they have alt ”  assistant language teachers” they work in high schools for a good salery.they are fresh out of university with zero experience.  surely experience counts for something?
i have taught people from 3yrs to 70yrs with success.
                                      thanks for listening

hey I am one of those ALT’s and while many are fresh out of college there are also a bunch of us who do have experience, I have worked in inner city schools in the US as literacy tutor, a school reform facilitator, and an after school program director for the past 6 years. just thought i would tell you that;)  as far as experience vs. tefl from what i can glean from the internet you can work without it, but it’s best to get it. depending on how my money is acting i may have to try and get work without it at the beginning, i suggest you put together teaching portfolio(lesson plans pictures of the students quotes from satisfied customers) and take that around when you interview.  I have an english friend that has been teaching in madrid for the past five years, she said the main thing is they will say, why don’t you have your TEFL? She also said working for a good academy you definetly need it.

are you still in japan? where at? i am down in miyazaki prefecture. INAKA.
