Renting in Barcelona

Hello,
I am arriving in Barcelona in late March and will have about a week to find an apartment before starting work.  I wonder if anyone has any advice on doing a lightning-fast apartment search? Craigslist seems encouraging, with lots of ads in English, but if anyone can direct me to any English-speaking rental agencies, that would perhaps line up 3-4 places for me to see right away, or something of that nature, that would be great.  Or if you can warn me against any pitfalls from your own experience…?

What I’m looking for is a very basic 1-br for about 400euro/mo, preferably on a month-to-month basis.  I’ve seen these on craigslist but I wonder if they are realistic/typical for Barcelona…?

Thanks for your input!

We have a great article on how to find an apartment in Spain as well. It was written from the Barcelona perspective.

Hi my partner is Spanish and works with a number of agencies in Barcelona but I can tell you straight away that if you?re looking for your own apartment you are going to struggle to find anything for 400 EUR, for that price you would either need to share, live outside the city or be very lucky. I guess with the financial crisis you might get lucky but you?re going to have to search the small ads, this might be a good place to start…

Good luck
