Hello there, I have just been given a work contract from an academy in Madrid to teach English. Its for one year and I know the owner so I am not worried about the academy.
My questions are,
1) I am in the states and I need to file for a work permit. What is actual cost of the work permit?
2) Also, I contacted a lawyer in Madrid, to help file the paperwork as I am in the states I need someone there in Madrid to actually go to the Ministerio de Trabajo, and file. The lawyer wants 450 euros to go to the Ministerio de Trabajo office and manage and file for all the work authorization. Is that a fair price? The law firm is abogadosvila.com
3) Any suggestions or recommendations?
I was told yesterday by the Spanish embassy in the states that once I have the work permit the visa is relatively simple.
Please help.

Sounds to me like a decent price. It is a lawyer after all... ;)

you cannot file unless you have the approval from the spanish ministry of labor

your employer should be the one who should start the application with ministry of labor, first thing you should do is send him a photocopy of your passport (all pages) compulsada by the spanish consulate in your area.

getting the approval for the working resident permit is extremely difficult. the job has to be listed in the catalogue for jobs that are not applied for by residents or spaniards. teaching is not included in the list.
