I received the following press release by email. If you’re in Malaga you may have been affected and may be interested in this class action.

On the 6th May a fire in Malaga?s Movistar telephone exchange left thousands of customers without service. It is estimated that the failure not just affected 50,000 phone lines but also 4,000 internet users and a number of mobile phone connections both in M?laga and the rest of the province.  For about a week, thousands of homes, ATMs, businesses and even public utilities were without a telephone and internet line, harming their businesses.

Lexland Abogados is a leading firm of lawyers offering high-quality legal services, with experience of working with private clients, business officials, financial institutions, international bodies and the Spanish public sector. They have launched a platform where the affected businesses can claim adequate compensation. It is to be pointed out that this compensation would doubtlessly exceed the amount indicated by the estimates of the local media.

El Sur reported that ?less than one euro for each day without a line? would be the compensation that those affected could receive, quelling many hopes of those whom have lost out across the incident. (El SUR; 10/05/2011). However, the Spanish law clearly states that those affected by the incident are entitled to financial compensation. Therefore, there are good chances for Movistar (Telefonica) customers to obtain compensation for the damages caused.
