Hello I am a new Spanish citizen through the Historical Memory Law, Gracias Espa?a. Presently I have a Spanish birth certificate as well as a Spanish passport. I am also a U.S. citizen as well if, that matters.
when you travel, leave the usa showing your usa passport, but enter europe showing your spanish passport, leave europe showing your spanish passport and enter the next country using the most convenient passport you may consider.
I would like to move to Spain soon and need to know what other documents I may need to live and work there and possibly how to go about obtaining them. For example NIE, Social Security number.
you will need the spanish dni, national identification card.
when you are “empadronado” you get the “certificado de empadronamiento” or “volante de empadronamiento”.
get an appoinment online to get an appointment with the police station near your area or line up very early or go there at about 1 in the afternoon. show them your spanish passport and the birth certificate and they will issue you your dni. don’t for get your photograph for the dni.
then go to the “tesorer?a de seguridad social” near your area and apply for your spanish social security number.
then go to the “centro de salud” of our area and apply for your health care card “tarjeta sanitaria”.
I do not speak Spanish very well yet so, if answers could possible be in english that would be more helpful.
you better learn spanish fast, you are entering a different culture and you will be shocked. look around you and learn fast.
getting a job is very difficult right now. however, it depends on your qualifications, on who you know and what job you are applying for. teaching english may be a fall back but school does not start till september.
enquire at the consulate if you can get some kind of aid as “emigrante retornado”.
Good luck, it will be very hard at the beginnng, and for quite a while. so you will need friends and family to support you, morally at least.
